Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity builds safe, decent and affordable housing for low-income families. These homes are sold with no interet mortgages. GCHFH makes no profit on the sale of these homes. Families with a housing need may qualify if they meet eligibility and participating guidelines. NOTE:  Occupancy is not immediate.  This process can take up to 2 years if you are selected as a Habitat Family.

Habitat does not give away homes. Qualifications and purchase requirements must be met. You must:

  • Currently be living in substandard or inadequate housing.
  • Go through an initial screening process.
  • Meet low-income guidelines. www.nj.gov/dca/coah
  • Meet approval requirements.
  • Provide up to 500 hours of sweat equity.
  • Demonstrate sufficient income to pay the Habitat mortgage, property taxes & homeowners insurance.
  • Agree to credit/background check
  • Agree to criminal background check

Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity has three criteria for becoming a homeowner:

  • Need for Adequate Shelter
Habitat builds homes for low-income families whose present housing is inadequate.
  • Ability to Pay
Applicants need to have the resources to pay a low-monthly mortgage.
  • Willingness to Partner
Applicants need to be willing to commit to the sweat equity requirement of 500 hours, and be part of the Habitat family.

How it Works

  • Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity (GCHFH) receives as much donated money, materials and volunteer time aspossible.
  • Houses are built and sold at cost. No profit is attached to the sale price.
  • Homeowners make mortgage payments to GCHFH. This includes mortgage principal, property taxes and homeowners insurance. There is no interest charged on the mortgage.
  • Mortgage payments received help GCHFH build more houses for low-income families.

To Proceed You May:

  • Call or vist the GCHFH office at 425 South Broadway, Pitman NJ 08071
  • (856) 256-9400
